Bell Aliant Unified Communications PC Phone issues

The inbox can store a maximum of 50 calls. The oldest call will be dropped from the list when the maximum is reached. Calls appear in the list in the order in which they were received, with the most recent call at the top of the list.

Your routing must be set up in the Personal Agent. Make sure it is configured properly.

If you are experiencing runtimes errors while using the PC Phone, perform the following steps:

1. Log out of your PC Phone.
2. Log back into your PC Phone.
3. Check to make sure that your firewall is not blocking the PC Phone.

If you continue to experience runtime errors, you may need to reinstall the software.

If you are unable to hear calls, please check the following:

• Your headset is plugged in.
• Your volume is adjusted.
• Your firewall is not blocking the PC Phone.

If you are having difficulty accessing the dial pad because it is always behind other windows, you can change the settings to that it is always on top.

To always display the dial pad, follow these steps:

1. Click on Settings.
2. Click on Display.
3. Make sure that Always on Top is selected.

A fast busy signal will occur if the other user is not properly connected or logged in. Please try calling again at another time.

Either the username or the password is not being entered correctly.

Check to make sure the proper username and password are being used by contacting your IT support.

If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 and your PC goes into sleep or standby mode, your PC Phone will not be able to receive incoming calls.

If your PC is in sleep or standby mode, you may have to log back into your PC Phone to take an incoming call.

You can remove the PC Phone client by following these steps:

1. Go into Add/Remove Programs.
2. Uninstall the PC Phone
3. Open Windows Explorer and search for “Bell Aliant PC Phone”. You should find two folders: one in Program Files and another in Documents.
4. Delete both Bell Aliant PC Phone folders.

When your headset is plugged into your computer, you may not hear when a call comes in as it rings in your headset.

To use your computer speakers, follow these steps:

1. Click on Settings.
2. Click on Audio Devices.
3. Ensure that “Device to use for alerting sounds” on the PC Phone client is set to use your speakers rather than the headset.

Incoming calls will now ring on the PC speakers. When you answer the call, the conversation will be heard through the headset.

When using a USB headset, you must remember to first plug it in before powering on the computer.

You can also try going into the Windows 7 audio settings and make the USB headset your default device for voice.

If changing the Windows audio settings did not work and you power up without first connecting the headset, you will need to go into your PC Phone and manually select the USB headset as your audio device.

This error occurs if the wrong username is entered in your PC phone. Your username is your 10-digit phone number followed by an "a" (e.g., 5061234567a).

To check your username, follow these steps:

1. Click on Settings.
2. Click on the User tab.
3. Make sure your username is entered correctly.

You need to select a location when entering your password, or you will not be able to click on OK.

After uninstalling the PC Client, two folders will remain on the computer:

• C:\Program Files\Bell Aliant PC Phone
• C:\Documents and Settings\\Bell Aliant PC Phone

This is where the configuration information is stored. Should you reinstall the PC Phone, it will load the previous configuration.

If you no longer want these folders, you can manually delete them.

This indicates that the user is in your friends list or address book but their name or nickname has been auto-populated with their phone number. You can fix this by editing their entry

To change a contact’s name, follow these steps:

1. Open up your PC Phone.
2. Right-click on the name of the person you need to add the nickname for and click the pencil icon.
3. Add your contact's name in the Nickname field and click Save.

If your PC Phone is picking up a lot of background noise and garble, your internal microphone may be set as the default and not your headset.

To change the default microphone, follow these steps:

1. Plug in your USB headset before you power up your computer so that it can automatically detect the headset.
2. In your PC Phone go to Settings (gear icon).
3. Click the Audio tab.
4. Under USB Headset Adapter, select your headset from the list.

Ensure you first plug in your headset each time you power up your computer and it will retain these settings.

If you power up without first connecting the headset, you will need to go into your PC Phone and manually select the USB headset as your audio device.
