How does 9-1-1 work with Bell Total Connect?

Limitations apply when you dial 9-1-1 using Bell Total Connect.

Emergency services cannot always automatically track the location of a 9-1-1 call made over the Bell Total Connect service. You must inform anyone using Bell Total Connect about these limitations.

Emergency calls that cannot be located will first be answered by a third party operator. You must be ready to provide your location to the operator who will then route the emergency call to the appropriate emergency response centre based on the location you provided.

If you cannot speak, do not hang up. As part of the Bell Total Connect service, you have access to a portal where you can verify and update your location. This emergency address information will be transmitted to the operator who will then route the emergency call based on the address in the portal. This is why it is crucial that anyone making use of the Bell Total Connect service keeps their location information up-to-date in this portal.

You should always attempt to complete 9-1-1 emergency calls through the native dialler of your mobile device or from a landline. If you make an emergency call using your Bell Total Connect service from a mobile device in a location where the mobile signal strength is low and Wi-Fi signal is strong, turn off your mobile connection to ensure your 9-1-1 call is sent over Wi-Fi. If the mobile connection is not turned off, your device may keep searching for a mobile network, which will prevent your 9-1-1 call from being routed.
