The State of Cloud Security in Canada: Top Actions for Strong Outcomes

As organizations fast-track support for hybrid workforces, digital services and more, data in the public cloud is being created, exchanged and processed faster than ever. However, with security technology and the threat landscape in constant evolution, there has been little information on the steps Canadian organizations are taking to secure their cloud operations.

To better understand the state of cloud security in Canada, Bell participated in an IDC survey of more than 300 medium and large organizations across a range of industries and geographies. The study uncovered large gaps in approaches to cloud security in Canadian organizations. For many organizations, security strategies are not in step with their pace of transformation.

Key results from the study include:
  • 43% of organizations’ data, on average, now resides in the cloud.
  • While cloud adoption is on the rise, only 52% of organizations have been able to protect their cloud environments from a security breach.
  • Only 34% of organization have deployed Cloud Security Posture Management, which helps identify and remediate risks across cloud infrastructures, leaving the majority of organizations exposed to misconfigurations, a top cloud security challenge.

The results are surprising, but they provide a window into the best practices of organizations that are highly innovative in the cloud while still maintaining robust data security.
